- Responsible for developing, updating and implementing health and safety plans and policies, enforcing policies and ensuring compliance with the H&S program and legal guidelines.
- Responsible for the Health and Safety training program. Provides group instructions and one-on-one safety training to Staff and Management on an ongoing basis, and as needed. Also, provides training on first-aid and CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and certifications for employees.
- Conducts Risk assessments and Site Inspections of all ACI Locations, including community worksites.
- Manages all Worker’s Compensation claims; works closely with third party administrators to handle claims and develops working relationships with the workers’ compensation clinic; investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and document trends and mitigation strategies; completes the required W/C and OSHA forms in a timely manner.
- Supervises the Vehicle Maintenance Instructor and the Building Maintenance Instructor
- Stays current with all OSHA compliance laws and procedures ensuring safety awareness for employees and Consumers; ensures OSHA posters are up-to-date.
- Represents the company in a professional manner at all times with Worker’s Compensation and OSHA Representatives, Third Party Inspectors, ACI Staff and Consumers, and other stakeholders.
- Completes a comprehensive Safety Report at least quarterly summarizing incident data, trends, and risk-mitigation strategies; outcomes of recent site inspections and risk assessments; worker's compensation claims; clinic visits; any updated policies, plans, forms; training provided and any other H&S matters.
- Enforces monthly safety meeting and evacuation drills, including the annual Great California ShakeOut.
- Conducts thorough annual reviews and updates of the Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, Injury and Illness Prevention Plan, Emergency Evacuation Policy, Risk Assessment Plan, Accessibility Plan for safety, and other Health and Safety Plans as guided by the Executive Director.
- Inspects ACI locations and vehicles for the required first aid supplies and other safety supplies needed.
- Assists with collecting, reviewing, analyzing and reporting any safety concerns listed on the Safety Meeting Minutes, Evacuation Drills, third Party Inspections, and Vehicle Inspections.
- Works closely with Case Managers, C.E./CIT/Landscape Program Managers and Consumers, assisting with incident reporting and clinic visits.
- Receives direction from the Executive Director.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- May oversee facility maintenance of buildings.
- Works independently and as a team.
- Attends courses/classes/seminars/webinars to stay current with CERT, Non-Violent Crisis Interventions, First-Aid/CPR/AED, and other Health and Safety training.
- May be required to complete the Cal/OSHA appeal forms, schedule informal conferences with OSHA representatives and address citations during the appeal process.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years’ experience working with workers’ compensation and safety procedures. Associates Degree in business management or closely related field. Proficient in reading, writing and math skills; proficient in office software, and Case Magic software programs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Valid California driver’s license and driving record acceptable to insurance company. CPR and First Aid certificate required.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common, technical documents and safety rules; operating and maintenance instructions; financial reports; legal documents; ability to respond to inquiries and complaints from staff, customers, and other stakeholders; outstanding attention to detail and observation ability; ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies; represent the company in a professional manner to top management, public and the board of directors; speak effectively before groups. Knowledge of risk management to include workers’ compensation, safety rules and regulations, OSHA compliance. Skilled in problem solving matters that may arise and create solutions; basic mathematical skills and operations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands of this job include the use of arms, hands, and fingers; standing and walking; bending over and lifting; twisting; squatting; carrying; reaching forward and above your head; moving or pushing; and lifting/pushing up to 50 pounds. Vision demands include close clarity and focus, distance, peripheral, and depth perception. Hearing demands include the ability to focus in the presence of distracting sounds, and to listen for and identify changes to factory or machinery sounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- 30% of the work environment is typical of a warehouse with noise level moderate to high, and the work areas are not always climate controlled. You’ll encounter moving mechanical parts and machine vibrations; powered equipment; compressed air; propane powered forklift; boxes of merchandise; pallets and shelving of material; recycling materials. May be exposed to a warehouse environment;exposed to various chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, heat, cold, wind and seasonal changes in climate.
- 30% of the work hours is spent in the community, driving and visiting worksites; meeting with third party representatives relating to health and safety, worker’s compensation, clinic, OSHA.
- 40% of the work hours is spent in an office environment.
COMPENSATION: $23.00 - 28.00/hour
The above range is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
